Meet Megan
ABOUT

My name is Megan Burrows, and I am a Canadian educator, based out of Toronto. My closest friends and family would describe me as a ‘house cat’, where I enjoy the comforts and beauty of my environment. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy a cozy lounge around the house day?
It is through cultivating a warm inviting space in my personal life, that I began to transfer this love of interior design into my classroom as well.
Every year my intention is to make my students says 'WOW' when they enter our classroom for the first time. When the students see the effort you have made to make the classroom feel like a home, they are grateful, as it reminds them everyday of how much you care.

FAQ
1) Are you really a teacher?
You bet I am! After graduating from the Concurrent Education program and Masters of Education program at the University of Toronto, I began my teaching career. I have been a homeroom teacher for over 6 years, and am so thankful for all of my experiences with different students, staff, and school communities along the way. This year I am currently teaching grade 5, but to protect their privacy I choose to keep my school / school board confidential. If you know, you know! ;)
2) Is it expensive to decorate a classroom?
As teachers we know that the majority of purchases that we make for our classrooms come from our own wallet, so yes it can be quite expensive. Start small and buy pieces that you believe in! It has taken me 6 years to accumulate resources, furniture, accent and decor pieces, books, shelving, you name it! I will share all of my insights and things I have learned with you! I’ve also relied on buying decor items on sale, second-hand, or through the charitable donations of other teachers from my community. One of the mistakes I made when I began my career was buying resources aimlessly, without much thought as to whether it spoke to my personal style, or really served a purpose in my room. Now, I choose my resources with intention, and pick pieces that I feel are timeless, impactful, and ultimately are worth the investment.
3) I want to redo my room, but where do I begin?
Choose a colour scheme that you love! Our collections include colour swatches so you can pick the one that matches your own aesthetic. Once you have determined which theme you are most drawn to, then you can find decor items that help compliment these colours. You can read more about designing a room from the ground up in our Post: Master Classroom Organization and checkout Megan's Faves to shop the accents I’ve paired with our products. Remember, always quality over quantity!
4) What has made the biggest impact in your room?
I would say there are 2 things that have made the biggest impact: 1) A cohesive colour story and 2) Organization. The goal is not to be ‘matchy - matchy’ but rather to have a colour story that flows between shape, pattern, colour, and texture. When you walk into a room that feels cohesive, you feel a sense of ease and calm, almost like you’ve taken a deep breath. Your eye can wander around the room out of interest, not distraction. Secondly, the key to any successful space is organization. I prioritize accessibility, so that the students can find what they need with efficiency.
